Bad luck vs. Good luck

Clarence | Musings, My Life, Rants, Yay | Sunday, April 1st, 2007

There are two sides to every coin: there’s God v. Satan, the yin v. the yang, black v. white; the good and the bad. Human nature demands that we have a choice. Without it, we would be powerless to decide our fate. And we all know how much we hate being powerless. To combat this feeling, we’ve attributed a choice to every facet of our lives. You want to get from Queens to Manhattan? You’ve got the F and E trains. You want to eat some meat at a barbeque? Beef or chicken. You wanna get laid? Male or female. And for those completely unexplainable turn of events, we turn to luck: good or bad.

Let’s examine Friday night’s events and see if we can sort this out. Click after the jump for the play by play :D

A Tale of Whoa

Clarence | Xanga, Yay | Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Gather round all ye xangarians and listen to my tale of whoa.

A much-awaited package arrived at my doorstep the other day. Judging from the packaging, I ascertained that it contained my recent order from Urban Outfitters. As I ripped open the parcel, I was utterly dismayed to come upon a striped hoodie.

“I ordered no such item!” I sorely excliamed. “Alas! They must have switched up my order!” I lamented.

However, upon further excavation of the box did I discover the extent of my purchase intact. But what of the aforementioned, unexpected hoodie? ‘Twas in my size, although I definitely did not order it. Examination of the packing slip revealed it’s omission from the invoice. And then it dawned on me:

I guess I just scored a free $76 Paul Frank hoodie. Oh whoa is me.

Aside: I think I’ve been watching too much Deadwood — hence the strange language with which this entry was written. My apologies.

Congratulations!

The Little Things

Clarence | Musings, Yay | Monday, October 31st, 2005

People expect life-changing revelations to occur in grand, quasi-divine manisfestations — “signs from God,” so to speak. They may be contained in providential coincidences that could only mean something. Or perhaps they are revealed through a tragedy in which one is knocked so far down that the only route to recovery is through extreme personal growth.

However, people tend to overlook the potency of the little things: a tender stroke of the arm, the warmth of a partner’s hand — these modest sensations can contain so much oomph within them. Sometimes, we just have to sit back and allow ourselves to savor these simple joys. It would be a shame to miss out on all this quiet bliss for want of earth-shattering inspiration.

There are times when I can think of nothing better than spending the day with you: just lying down and basking in the pure delight of each other’s presence.
