Rained out

Clarence | My Life | Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

This morning we woke up to the sounds of thunder and heavy rain. For a normal Saturday afternoon this would have been cause to roll over and go back to sleep. However, this Saturday we’re in a rented beach house 10 minutes outside of Atlantic City. Looks like we’re going to have to spend the whole day winning money in the casinos instead of catching some rays and waves on the beach.

Fourthtinerary

Clarence | My Life | Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Seeing as my plans for the long weekend fell through, I’ve decided it’d be a good time to get some stuff done that I’ve been meaning to take care of for quite a while. And nothing lights a fire under one’s proverbial ass like a to-do list, so here it is (and will hopefully be updated as the weekend progresses):

  • Read a book. Done. (It was a vampire book, but a book’s a book right?)
  • Redesign clrrnts.
  • Take more pictures. Done.
  • Start planning our Miracle Fruit party. Done.
  • Write a real blog post (Oh, it’s been so long).
  • Finish season 1 of Mad Men. Done.
  • Start and finish that tshirt thing I’ve been meaning to do since last year D:
  • Get more sleep.
  • Watch a movie (or two). Done.
  • Figure shit out.

Yeah, I think I’ll aim low and try to accomplish at least two of these mofos.

Update: Turns out I went to Philly anyway, but look at all the stuff I got accomplished in addition to going away for 2 days. I’m awesome.

Addicted to Television

Clarence | My Life, TV | Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Hi, my name is Clarence and I’m addicted to television.

Last night, A asked me to go out and get some soup dumplings with her. I told her I couldn’t. There was a  new episode of Gossip Girl (finally!) at 8 and I really didn’t want to miss it. But then I thought about it, was I really choosing a TV show (which I regularly coughdownloadcough) over hanging out with a friend? What a douche I am! And that’s what I realized I hit bottom.

So I texted her that I would be honored to slurp some dumplings with her and made sure as hell that when I got home I downloaded that new GG episode.

No CoD4 tonight

Clarence | Music, My Life | Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I didn’t play Call of Duty 4 tonight.

Instead, I had some good conversations with people I’ve been inadvertently ignoring since I’ve gotten the game. I also got a chance to catch up on some music and listen to some muxtapes (Maryanne’s, The pursuit of happiness and fuckingrad).

It was a good night.

The Mosquito Sound revisted

Clarence | Musings, My Life | Monday, April 7th, 2008

A asked about the Mosquito Sound last night at dinner. I remember senior year, listening to the sound myself, and being overjoyed that I could hear it. Then I subsequently forwarded the song to everybody and their mother. A lot of people my age could still hear it, while people younger than me couldn’t. It was nice to know that I was still young, and hadn’t gone over the hill yet. I was still one of those rambunctious youths meant to be kept from loitering and committing acts of tomfoolery.

Two years have passed since then, and when A brought it up last night, I was curious as to whether I could still hear it. It’s supposed to be a teenage-only thing and here I was, long out of my teenage years. I’ve been feeling the weight of my years slowly, and still being able to hear the sound would have boosted my self-esteem a bit. We listened to the sound on youtube later on, and much to my chagrin, I couldn’t hear it. Nothing at all! But I was determined not to let this get me down, youtube is infamous for their joke videos.

Tonight, I looked up the mosquito sound. I rechecked the BBC article (a reputable source!) where I had originally found it and listened to it again. Thank God. I’m still young. Although I do believe listening to the sound now starts to give me one hell of a headache. I guess I am getting old–but not too old.

Listen to the sound here.

Shakespeare in the Park

Clarence | My Life | Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Shakespeare in the Park’s presentation of “Romeo and Juliet” was amazing. It was worth:

  • waking up at 4:30 in the morning.
  • getting bitched at by 2 women with sticks up their asses.
  • freezing in the shade on the line.

Today was so much fun it completely overshadowed the above three bullet points; from the delicious dosas to the convivial conversations, it was a complete pleasure. The seven hours on the line flew by so fast because of the company we kept. I can’t wait to do it again for “Midsummer’s Night Dream.”

By the way, I promise I’ll write a story tomorrow. I’ve been up for 20 hours and need to… ptfo.

Rebirth

Clarence | My Life | Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

As you can see, I’ve decided to start writing again. I’ve also decided to take up some amateur photography as a hobby. With all these new beginnings, I thought I’d refresh some things around here:

  • clearrants.com is now actually more than a “coming soon” splash page from 2005.
  • New layout on /blog. Pull the string for fun!
  • New photolog, visual rants, at /visual.
  • Started a tumblelog, clrrnts., at /tumble.
  • Got a pro account at flickr for my pictures.
  • And as always, you can check my music at last.fm.

All of these should be regularly updated. And if you’re thinking, “Wow, what a vain guy he is to have 5 different sites all dedicated to himself,” you’re probably right. But that only challenges me to keep up the quality of everything listed above. Here’s to an auspicious beginning.

Bad luck vs. Good luck

Clarence | Musings, My Life, Rants, Yay | Sunday, April 1st, 2007

There are two sides to every coin: there’s God v. Satan, the yin v. the yang, black v. white; the good and the bad. Human nature demands that we have a choice. Without it, we would be powerless to decide our fate. And we all know how much we hate being powerless. To combat this feeling, we’ve attributed a choice to every facet of our lives. You want to get from Queens to Manhattan? You’ve got the F and E trains. You want to eat some meat at a barbeque? Beef or chicken. You wanna get laid? Male or female. And for those completely unexplainable turn of events, we turn to luck: good or bad.

Let’s examine Friday night’s events and see if we can sort this out. Click after the jump for the play by play :D
